西南交通大学希望学院建校于2009年，是经国家教育部批准、由首批进入“双一流”建设的百年名校西南交通大学和华西希望集团按照高标准、高起点的要求创办，以轨道交通特色立校的一所全日制工科类普通本科高等院校，是四川省首批应用型转型改革试点院校、首批三全育人改革试点院校。学校设有成都校区和南充校区，主体成都校区坐落于“千里沱江第一城、天府水城”金堂县。
学校始终坚持社会主义办学方向，全面贯彻党的教育方针，弘扬“明德励志、务实创新、竢实扬华、自强不息”的精神，坚持“轨道交通”办学特色，坚持“立足四川、服务西部、面向全国、走向国际”的办学定位，强化“以人为本，以学生为中心，把每个学生培养成才”的办学宗旨，实施“质量立校、人才强校、特色兴校、创新驱动、协同发展”的办学方略，实干笃行，奋楫争先，努力培育以“宽基础、多口径、强能力、高素质”为特征的“现场工程师”应用型人才，致力建设“国内外知名、学科优势突出、行业特色鲜明、社会高度认可”的全国一流应用技术型大学。
学校按照强化内涵、彰显特色要求，设有轨道交通学院、土木工程学院、商学院、继续教育学院、国际学院、马克思主义学院、外语系、基础部、体育部等教学单位，开办了覆盖工学、管理学、文学、理学等学科门类的本专科专业近50个，面向全国22个省市招收优质生源，现有在校学生28000余人。加强师资队伍建设，持续汇聚品德高尚、治学严谨、造诣精深的学科带头人，多途径引培高素质“双师双能型”人才，现有专任教师1290人。加强实践教学环节，建成“理实一体化”跨专业、高仿真、数智化、开放共享的实验实训平台100余个，与企业合作建设校外实训基地200余个，其中轨道交通“理实一体化实训中心”获批四川省实验教学示范中心、“测量实训基地”获批省级大学生校外实践教育基地建设项目。加强“书香校园”建设，图书馆面积14500平方米，拥有纸质图书130余万册、电子图书200万册。
学校充分依托西南交通大学强大的师资优势以及母体学校国家级、省级特色专业和实验教学示范中心，将所办专业分为轨道交通核心专业群、支撑专业群、延伸专业群，已获批省级一流、示范专业建设点16个，实现省部级重点专业全覆盖。其中，交通运输、土木工程等4个专业获批四川省一流本科专业建设点，工程管理、机械设计制造及其自动化、计算机科学与技术等6个专业获批省级应用型示范建设专业，工程造价、会计学等4个专业获批四川省民办高校重点特色专业质量提升计划建设项目，物流工程、财务管理等2个专业获批四川省民办高校特色（骨干）专业建设项目。获批省级“课程思政”示范教学团队项目2个、省级一流课程7门、省级应用型示范课程12门。
学校强化科研竞赛的引领作用，用政策激励、用制度保障科研创新和学科竞赛活动。“十四五”以来，立项省部级、市厅级科研课题360项，立项教育部高校学生司供需对接就业育人项目10项，立项教育部产学合作协同育人项目3项，立项省级高等教育人才培养质量和教学改革项目4项，立项国家级大学生创新创业训练计划项目104项，立项省级大学生创新创业训练项目424项；发表论文740篇，其中中文核心及以上期刊88篇；出版教材或专著31部；授权专利105件；学生参加各类学科竞赛获奖1174项，其中国际级奖3项、国家级奖699项、省级奖331项。在“2022中国民办本科院校科研竞争力实力评价排名”中，学校位列《基于增值评价的中国民办本科院校科研竞争力排名》第八名。
学校牢记“为谁培养人、培养什么人、怎样培养人”这个根本问题，按照“培养德智体美劳全面发展的社会主义建设者和接班人”这个根本要求，深化教育教学改革创新，构建德智体美劳并举的育人体系，强化“就业-招生-培养”联动工作机制，加强与企业、院校、政府部门的战略性合作，推动校企地合作“全方位”“全过程”融合，通过订单培养、“3+1”“2+1”等模式，深度与成都地铁、成都现代有轨电车、成都铁路局、中铁八局、中铁建大桥局、京东商贸等企业合作交流，实现学生毕业与就业无缝对接。学院已累计输送5万余名高素质应用型人才，就业率和就业质量稳居同类院校前列，受到学生、家长和社会的广泛认可。学校于2021年被授予首批“海外实习就业基地学校”称号；作为四川省应用型本科高校联盟副理事长单位，学校积极推进资源共享、人才共育，获得良好反响。
学校积极推进国际交流合作，与马来西亚英迪国际大学、泰国西那瓦国际大学、白俄罗斯创业与管理学院、布列斯特国立技术大学、维捷布斯克国立大学、戈梅利国立大学、布列斯特国立大学、波洛茨克国立大学签订合作协议，发挥“国际课程周”品牌效应，实施“希望视界”教师提升计划，建设国际科研能力培养平台，培养具有国际视野的创新人才。

Southwest Jiaotong University Hope College, established in 2009, is a full-time undergraduate engineering institution. Founded through a collaboration between the century-old prestigious Southwest Jiaotong University, an early participant in the “Double First-Class” initiative, and the Huaxi Hope Group, the college was established with exacting standards and a lofty vision, focusing on the distinctive feature of rail transportation. It stands as one of the first applied transformation and reform pilot institutions in Sichuan Province, as well as one of the first batch of pilot college for the reform of “ Sanquan Education Theory: cultivating students in the three dimensions of full participation, whole process and all-round interaction.” The college comprises campuses in Chengdu and Nanchong, with the primary Chengdu campus located in Jintang County, renowned as the “First City along the Thousand-Mile Tuojiang River ” and the “Water City of Tianfu.”
The college has always adhered to the socialist direction of education, fully implemented the Party’s educational policy, and promoted the spirit of “moral integrity and aspiration, pragmatic innovation, persistence and excellence, and self-improvement ”. It upholds the characteristic of “rail transportation” education and positions itself as “based in Sichuan, serving the western regions, facing the whole country, and going internationally”. It has strengthened the educational tenet of “putting people first, focusing on students, and cultivating every student to become talented,” implemented the educational strategy of “establishing the college with quality, strengthening the college with talents, developing the college with characteristics, driving innovation, and promoting coordinated development.” We implement practical actions, strive for excellence, and strive to cultivate applied talents with the characteristics of “broad foundation, multi-disciplinary, strong capabilities, and high quality” as “on-site engineers,” and is committed to building a nationally renowned, domestically and internationally recognized first-class applied technical college with outstanding disciplinary advantages, distinct industry characteristics, and high social recognition.
The college has established several teaching units, including the School of Rail Transportation, School of Civil Engineering, School of Business, School of Continuing Education, International School, School of Marxism, Department of Foreign Languages, Basic Course Department, and Sports Department, in accordance with the requirements of strengthening connotation and highlighting characteristics. It offers nearly 50 undergraduate and specialty programs covering disciplines such as engineering, management, liberal arts, and natural sciences. The college recruits high-quality students from 15 provinces and cities across the country, with a current enrollment of over 28,000 students. Efforts have been made to strengthen the construction of the faculty team. The college continuously attracts scholars who are morally upright, academically rigorous, and possess profound knowledge as discipline leaders. Multiple pathways are utilized to cultivate high-quality “double-qualified” talents. Currently, there are 1,290 full-time teachers at the college. The college has also enhanced practical teaching by establishing over 100 integrated experimental training platforms that are cross-disciplinary, highly simulated, data-intelligent, and open for sharing. Additionally, over 200 off-campus training bases have been built in collaboration with enterprises. Among them, the “Theoretical and Practical Integration Training Center” in School of Railway Transportation has been approved as the Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Sichuan Province, and the “Measurement Training Base” has been approved as the Provincial University Students’ Off-campus Practical Education Base Construction Project. Besides, great importance has been attached to strengthening the construction of “Scholarly Campus”. To achieve this, we have built a library covering 14,500 square meters with more than 1.3 million paper books and 2 million e-books.
As an independent institute built on the advantageous faculty of Southwest Jiaotong University and her education resources such as characteristic specialty of national and provincial level and experimental teaching demonstration center, our majors are classified into core discipline group of trail transit, supporting discipline group and extension discipline group. We have been approved 16 first-class and demonstration specialty construction points at the provincial level, realizing the coverage of provincial and ministerial-level key majors. Among them, 4 majors such as Railway Transportation, Civil Engineering have been approved as first-class undergraduate major construction sites in Sichuan Province; 6 majors such as Engineering Management, Mechanical Design and Computer Science and Technology have been approved as provincial application-oriented demonstration construction majors; 4 majors such as Engineering Costing and Accounting have been approved as key specialty quality improvement projects of Sichuan private colleges and universities, and 2 majors such as Logistics Engineering and Financial Management have been approved as characteristically professional construction projects of private universities in Sichuan Province. Our College has been approved by 2 demonstration teaching groups of provincial “Ideological and Political Teaching in All Courses”, 7 provincial-level first-class courses, and 12 provincial-level application-oriented demonstration courses.
Hope College strengthens the leading role of scientific researches and contests, and works to guarantee scientific research innovation and disciplinary contest through policies and systems. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, 360 scientific research projects at provincial and ministerial level and municipal level, 10 projects of supply and demand docking employment education projects of the Department of College Students of the Ministry of Education, 3 collaborative education projects of industry-university cooperation of the Ministry of Education, 4 projects of provincial higher education talent training quality and teaching reform projects have been initiated. What’s more, there are 104 national innovation and entrepreneurship training programs and 424 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship training programs for college students; 740 papers have been published, including 88 in Chinese core journals and journals of higher level; 31 textbooks and monographs have been published; 105 patents have been authorized. Furthermore, we have received 1174 awards from students participating in various disciplinary competitions, of which 3 awards are at the international level, 699 awards are at the national level, and 331 awards are at the provincial level. In the “2022 China Private Undergraduate Colleges Research Competitiveness Evaluation Ranking”, our college has won the eighth place in the “China Private Undergraduate College Research Competitiveness Ranking Based on Value-added Evaluation”.
With “who and how to train, and to what end” as the core, and in accordance with the fundamental requirement of “fostering the constructor and successor of the cause of socialism – young people with an all-round moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetical grounding, imbued with the spirit of hard work”, the college has deepened the reform and innovation of education and teaching, built an all-encompassing education system, strengthened the “employment-enrollment-cultivation” linkage mechanism, advanced the strategic cooperation with enterprises, colleges and universities, and government departments, and developed the “comprehensive and whole-process” school-enterprise integration and cooperation. Through order-oriented training, “3+1”, “2+1” modes, we have deeply cooperated and exchanged with Chengdu Metro Co., LTD., Chengdu Modern Tram Co., LTD., Chengdu Railway Bureau, China Railway No.8 Engineering Group Co., Ltd., Bridge Engineering Bureau of China Railway Construction Group, JD.com. Inc etc., so as to realize a seamless docking between the graduation and employment of students. We have sent more than 50,000 high-quality applied talents. The employment rate and quality of employment steadily rank among the top of similar institutions and we are widely recognized by students, parents and the society. We were awarded the title of the first batch of “Base Schools for Internship Abroad” in 2021. As the vice-chairman of the Applied Universities Alliance in Sichuan Province, we actively promote resource sharing and talent co-cultivation, and all has achieved good response.
We vigorously promote international exchanges and cooperation and have signed cooperation agreements with INTI International University Malaysia, Shinawatra University Thailand, Belarusian Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Belarusian National Technical University, Vitebsk State University, Gomel State University, Brest State University, Poltava National Technical University. International courses are fully offered and utilized. Simultaneously, the “Hope Horizon” faculty improvement program has been put into place to train creative talent with a worldwide perspective and to create a platform for developing international scientific research capabilities.
In the future, Southwest Jiaotong University Hope College will follow current trends, accumulate wisdom to prioritize quality improvement, and actively advance digital transformation while placing students at the center and taking cultivating talents as fundamental mission.
